Hi guys,
I’m mrt498 from reddit and through I’d send a message after hearing your most recent podcast. I was very, very close to quitting pokemon after the valentine’s event and i’m curious if I was the only frustrated one.
Some backstory, I only started playing this game to play with my wife. I was told to pick a different team than her and was up to level 21 before I started over completely to join the blue team so that we could work together.
I’m up to level 31 (mostly because I knew how to work the system and could level up very quickly when I restarted), and only needed 4 pokemon to fill my NA pokedex: Chansey, Dragonite, Gyrados, and whatever Togepi turns into. The last three are all doable by walking people I have a million kms, but doeable. But the Chansey is another story…
I hadn’t even seen one, ever. So the fact that this event would make them more easily catchable was very exciting to me and I was pumped to get to work. I managed to hatch 5 10K eggs during that time, getting 3 smoochems and an eletrakid. Both felt like the game was mocking me.
Up until the very last night of the event, I still hadn’t even seen a Chansey… I didn’t need 100 more clefairies since I quit catching them before the event, I just wanted a Chansey and I would be happy.
Luckily, I saw ONE on the last night and caught it. But I didn’t even get to have the joy of catching it, my thoughts were more “it’s about time” more than “yay, I got one!”
So I’m curious if anyone else was frustrated by the event, or if it was just me. I did catch many porygons which were not around much before but the impossible search and the mocking baby eggs made me hate the game rather than have fun.

PS. I pity the fool made me laugh. I teach and 21 years ago when the kids started to call me Mr. T they didn’t get the pity the fool reference, so I’m not sure how many of your listeners did 21 years later!
